Paul's Retirement

Get that man an umbrella drink!

Wit Never Retires

by John Angelis

My interactions with Paul have always been marked by humor. The insight that leads to his CPLEX skills and excellent research also leads to a mastery of Twitter that I frankly envy. Paul has a way of always finding something to say about what’s going on. If you don’t want to have to stifle snorts and chuckles, stay away from Paul at an INFORMS social event as he surveys the scene and gives you his analysis.

Now that Paul is retiring, I’m glad that he’ll have even more time to sharpen his wit on the Internet and continue to come up with interesting observations. Looking at his last ten Tweets, I see typical Paul still at work. Valuable news on solvers and jobs is mixed in with wisecracks about Windows and Klout. I’ve appreciated how Paul has blended the scholarly work of OR with humor and lightheartedness, and look forward to seeing how he finds a way to make retirement both entertaining and productive. Here’s to many more moments of laughter, Paul!
