Paul's Retirement

Get that man an umbrella drink!

May the Optimal Force be with Rubin

By Thiago Serra

I never met Paul personally. However, that did not prevent me from learning a bit of what this optimization jedi master doctor has to tell. There is a reasonable number of operations research enthusiasts spreading the word about O.R. on the internet, but fewer with so much tenacity and experience to do it as well as he has been doing.

There is a part of me that would like to ask Paul to keep blogging and exchanging his thoughts with us after his retirement. But if there is anyone who truly deserves a break, it would be him.

Paul, let me know if you plan to visit São Paulo someday, eat pão-de-queijo and feijoada, taste a Brazilian caipirinha, or talk about optimization. I will be glad to join you and learn a bit more from your experience.

From a great admirer, Thiago Serra.

Thiago, thanks for the kind words. If I make it to São Paulo someday (INFORMS: are you looking for meeting site suggestions? I mean, besides Hawaii?), I’ll take you up on that offer.
